News: Not Your Average Special Edition – The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph

Fast forward to today, and 2021’s America’s Cup not only celebrates Omegas 26th year involved with the event but also marks its third time being the official timekeeper. Just like the Moonwatch with NASA and the Olympic watches with well, the Olympics, Omega makes special edition watches to celebrate the America’s Cup. The newest of which is why we are here today: introducing the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph—and it’s not just a regular ol’ Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph with a fresh lick of paint either.
Okay, okay, while the watch does have that lick of paint—decorated in the colours of the America’s Cup: blue and red—there are three key features that make it more than your average sprinkle of colour special edition. The first is the chronograph pushers. From afar, they look pretty normal, right? Well, they are—in the traditional sense anyway, they start and restart the chronograph—it's only when you take a closer look that you notice they are coated in rubber for better grip in wet conditions.

Along with that pretty handy feature is the new “Chrono Lock” located on the case on the America’s Cup Chronograph's 44mm steel case at eight. A feature designed to, yes, you guessed it, lock the chronograph so that you don’t accidentally activate it in moments of exertion—which I can only imagine are frequent in the world of competitive sailing.
Finally, we get to arguably the most useful feature of this new watch: its regatta function. In red, the regatta function can be seen at three replacing what would have been the chronograph hour indicator. But don’t worry, the hour reading is still there, just now suspended underneath the dial on a rotating disk for a cleaner-looking dial layout.

All this in addition to a watch that was impressive to begin with. 300m water-resistance, a helium escape valve, along with a co-axial chronograph fit with a column wheel, vertical clutch, silicon hairspring and twin barrels—helping the watch to achieve its sixty hours of power—who said you couldn’t have it all?
So, there you have it, the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph. A not so ordinary special edition sports watch—and maybe a new rival to the Yacht-Master II? Only time can tell on that one.
